The Shard – Renzo Piano Building Workshop

Con 72 piani, la "scheggia di vetro" è l'edificio più alto d'Europa. La forma piramidale risponde a fattori architettonici e pratici (i piani più larghi ospitano uffici, quelli più stretti appartamenti, con un albergo in mezzo). Le facciate a doppia pelle di vetro extra-chiaro costituiscono un filtro climatico, mentre negli spazi tra le "schegge" si aprono i giardini d'inverno.

With its 72 storeys, the "shard of glass" is the tallest structure in Europe. The pyramid shape meets architectural and practical needs (the wider floors feature offi ces, in the narrowest the residential part, with a hotel in the middle). The extra clear glass double skin facades serve as a climatic filter, while in the spaces among the “shards” there are the winter gardens.
